PSA Testing

Screening

There is no national screening programme for prostate cancer in the UK.  This is because previous research showed that the PSA test isn’t a reliable test that can pick up prostate cancer that needs treatment.

If you wish to have a PSA test, you can contact your GP practice.  Admin staff will ask you some questions to determine whether an appointment is required with a GP initially.  Please read the Cancer Research UK information leaflet below before attending an appointment for a PSA blood test plus the instructions of what to avoid prior to the test.  Once we receive the results of the blood test, a follow-up appointment with a GP should be made.
